The island of Zmajan, as it is formally called (Dragon Island), better known among the natves as Orut, was once an important agricultural property of the folk of PrviŠ Luka. Like many middle-Dalmatian islands, it has been cultivated for vineyards and olive gardens. The soil has been cleaned of rocks, and the rocks were used to build drywalls around the vineyards. One look at the walls tells what effort was put into cultivation, and the value of fertile soil. Today, the grapevines are gone, the olives are neglected, and pine trees are reclaiming the island.
